Children’s gardens and associated activities allow for learning and expression of creativity. I’m into my second year of sharing the joys of gardening with fresh minds.
In autumn, I delivered two children’s gardening workshops in conjunction with Diaco’s Garden Nursery in Mornington. Two groups of children from a local school participated in the workshops where the topic was the early life of a plant. Geared up in aprons and gloves the children participated in planting seedlings and learning how to care for their plant. They took their project home to grow in their own garden. The success of the workshops far exceeded expectations with great feedback from the children, teachers and parents.
The reactions and animated responses of the children inspires me to become even more creative and to consider new ways that will inspire their interaction with the green world around them. I’m currently working on new activities to be delivered in a new series of workshops later this year (November 2016).
