Travelling through Italy last August I was surrounded by signs and people talking about EXPO Milano 2015. I missed my train in Napoli and noticed an EXPO 2015 pop up store so I decided to explore.
EXPO Milano 2015, the world’s exposition. The largest cultural, historical, and educational Olympiad in the world dedicated to the sharing of diverse and innovative ideas under the theme "Feed the planet - energy for life" and supported by the United Nations. EXPO 2015 had a focus on agriculture, horticulture and sustainability. How had I never heard of this back home in Australia?
I rearranged my schedule and ventured out to Milan for a few nights. EXPO 2015 was located half an hour outside of the city centre and covered 1,000,000 m². I was lucky enough to have two 12 hour visits and explored approximately 70% of the exhibition. Unfortunately it did not allow me any time to attend conference sessions or seminars. What I saw ignited my curiosity and made me want to see and learn more to share with people back home in Australia. Over the next few months I will share highlights, trends and new innovations experienced first hand at EXPO 2015.
EXPO 2016 will be hosted by Turkey and held at a Horticultural exhibition site located in the city of Antalya between 23 April and 30 October with a horticultural focus and the philosophy "A Green Life for Future Generations", the theme is "Greening the Future": its sub themes will include "Flowers and Children", “History”, “Biodiversity”, “Sustainability” and “Green Cities”.
The next world’s exposition with key themes and topics that relate specifically to our industry will be EXPO 2019 Beijing. The focus is botanics and the theme “Live Green, Live Well”.
