I am taking time to reflect on the year that was 2015. A rollercoaster ride filled with hard work, great achievements and centred together with timeout for reflection and growth.
My work on community-based projects provided opportunities to demonstrate environmental, community and business leadership. This was formally recognised in March, when I was awarded the Australian National Winner of the Nursery and Garden Industry Australian (NGIA) - Heather Rumsey Young Leader Award. I am very proud to have won this national award. The opportunities that have ensued as a result of my participation in the Awards Program has connected me to a network of other industry leaders. It gave me recognition for the work I was doing and provided opportunities that will assist in progressing my career.
In June I delivered a presentation to the national board of the NGIA and actively participated in the national board meeting. July saw me invited to join the NGIA National Conference Committee and later booked to present at the event, which will be held Adelaide in February 2016.
As a winner of the NGIA Young Leader Award 2015, I had the opportunity to apply for a Leadership Development Scholarship and was successfully awarded a scholarship in November. Additionally in December, I was offered a place at the Australian Film Television and Radio School (AFTRS). As part of the scholarship, I will be embarking on an international study tour of the Nursery and Garden Industry in Italy, together with a visit to the Chelsea Flower and Garden Show in 2016. The scholarship presents opportunities for further leadership development, working towards my leadership and professional goals and enabling me to undertake further education, diverse experiences and industry exposure at an international level.
I wish my clients and colleagues all the very best for 2016 and look forward to sharing my new blog series (starting late January) in the lead up to my international study tour. Happy New Year!
